Who needs one? I’d say most people can use one. Let’s face it. In this service oriented paradise where people are hiring people to do everything from financial advising to holding their umbrellas, why not personal training? The rewards for personal training are far greater than the common services requested by most patrons.
Besides peace of mind, there’s nothing greater than having a sound and healthy body to take you anywhere you need to go. A personal trainer is your best bet to getting into the best shape of your life! Let’s look at my top 5 reasons for hiring a personal trainer.
1. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU’RE DOING! So you think a dumbbell is doorbell that doesn’t work. Don’t be embarrassed. (well only if you really think that) Most people don’t have a clue what to do in a gym and pass by equipment like they’re window shopping. I mean, one lady asked me if the gym had an instruction manual for a certain exercise machine. Come on! That’s what trainers are there for; to guide you on how to use various machines, how often, and so on. It’s really obvious when someone doesn’t know what he’s doing when he thinks he can’t use a machine because the illustration posted on it is not the same gender he is.
2. YOU THINK YOU’VE INVENTED FITNESS. I know, I know; you’ve been working out since your mother’s wombs practicing your karate kicks in her stomach. So what! Even athletes have trainers; who in some cases can basically pass for having the body of a god. No one knows everything, and professional trainers continue their education yearly to keep up with the latest fitness trends and physiological updates to ensure the best results for and ever changing industry. The Arnold Swartzenegger workout doesn’t necessarily work for today’s sedentary, unconditioned, or misinformed gym enthusiast. Times have changed and information is still changing. A trainer’s job is to stay abreast of the latest info for today’s standards.
3. YOU’RE NOT GOING TO THE GYM UNLESS THEY PAY YOU. Alright, you know you need to work out, but you couldn’t muster up the drive if you stood on wheels. Talk about no motivation. You’ll use any excuse to leave the gym like, “oh well, someone’s using my machine.” Good trainers know how to motivate. We’ll schedule appointments to make sure you come, and give you that extra push you normally wouldn’t have on your own. With all the tasks one has to perform daily, figuring out a workout routine-let alone having the energy to do it is monumental. Trainers do the thinking for you, you perform the exercise, and you get the results. It’s just that simple.
4. YOU’RE ONE SNEEZE AWAY FROM THROWING YOUR BACK OUT. Most Americans are out of shape. We just don’t live the active lifestyles we used to live hundreds of years ago. Things like protecting the village to farming the land. Nowadays we just protect our computers and make sure we have a view of the land. This lack of exercise can lead to degenerative bone diseases, muscle aches, and so on. Compounding that scenario with unsupervised exercise is a recipe for disaster. Educated trainers are versed with different techniques on correcting muscle imbalances, strengthening weak muscles, and in some cases, pre and post rehab. The better choice is to have a trainer help you to avoid injury.
5. YOU’VE BEEN DOING THE SAME WORKOUT YOUR FATHER TAUGHT YOU WHEN YOU WAS A LITTLE KID Bored are we? I think so. I love seeing people who basically have their name etched in on different machines in the gym. Their whole day is ruined if their machine is out of order. For goodness sake, change it up! Experienced trainers know all about versatility. Tricking your muscles by changing your routine every now and then is an optimal way to get results.
Finding the right trainer for you is a whole other tip! So stay tuned!
